ACM Reflections | Projections



Palm, Incorporated is sponsoring a tech talk and ACM Student Showcase at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during the ACM Reflections | Projections Conference on October 18th, 2009. Learn more about developing on Palm webOS and take advantage of the opportunity to win a Palm Pre.

ACM Student Showcase

Rob Tsuk, a Principal Architect on Palm’s Software Services and Applications team, will lead an open discussion. Topics may include:
  • Interesting webOS development war stories.
  • Why JavaScript is the perfect language (and you should use no other).
  • Mojo app development tips and tricks.
After the discussion, students who have applications to demo will be given the opportunity to show their webOS application. The audience will vote for their favorite student application after the demonstrations.

Prizes

Each member of the winning team will receive a Palm Pre1. Other prizes will include copies of Palm webOS by Mitch Allen, and all participants will receive t-shirts.

Showcase Rules

The rules to participate are simple.
  1. You must be an actively enrolled college or university student.
  2. You can register as an individual or a team by sending an email to ACMStudentShowcase@palm.com. Include your name and the name of the college or university you are attending. If you are registering as a team, include the names of every team member. Each team can have up to 3 members.
  3. Email your app to ACMStudentShowcase@palm.com by October 15.
  4. You will have the opportunity to demo your submitted app on a provided laptop and projector at the Student Showcase. A Palm Pre will also be available for demo use.
  5. You must be present to win.
  6. The winners will be chosen by the audience attending the showcase.

  1. Sign-up – Send us an email to ACMStudentShowcase@palm.com.
  2. Download the SDK – Sign-up at developer.palm.com, download the SDK and begin working on your application.
  3. Build an app, win the crowd, and win a Palm Pre!
